Mythical Games and World usher in a new era for in-game economies

World is teaming up with Mythical Games, the studio behind hits like NFL Rivals, FIFA Rivals and Pudgy Party, to advance gaming in the age of AI. The studio will also launch the first Layer 3 blockchain built on World Chain.

Through this partnership, games built on Mythical will leverage World ID’s proof of human technology to make sign-on solutions more robust, in-game asset distribution fairer, and gameplay more fun.

Mythical will bring its millions of players to the real human network – [insert real-time ticker of Orb-verified humans] real humans strong. That includes its thriving marketplaces, digital character assets, and the MYTH token. All of this will be powered by Mythos Chain, a Layer 3 blockchain to be built on top of World Chain’s Layer 2 infrastructure.

Why it matters

Bots are bumming serious gamers out. While bots do have a place in gaming, they can also be used to manipulate in-game economies, gain an unfair advantage, and snag rewards that should go to human players. Nearly 75% of gamers say these uninvited “players” are making games less fun.

But with World ID integrated into Mythical’s ecosystem, gamers will have a leg up in being able to better distinguish between humans and bots.

Because Mythical’s games are built on blockchain infrastructure, asset ownership isn’t pretend. Millions of players flock to Mythical’s titles not only because they’re fun, but also because the Mythical platform lets them truly own and trade their game assets. By integrating proof of human, Mythical ensures those economies stay fair and transparent.

A longstanding problem meets a scalable solution

Botting has challenged game developers for decades – from Glider, which let people play World of Warcraft on “auto-pilot” until it was challenged in court, to Final Fantasy 14’s recent addition of paywalls aimed at curbing abuse.

But lawsuits and paywalls can only take game-makers and studios so far as AI exacerbates these problems and creates new challenges. Research on the topic found bot traffic on games hit 147 billion requests in one month (January 2024)—more than 6 times the traffic compared to the same period last year.

World’s anonymous proof of human technology ends that arms race so developers and players alike can trust that the system isn’t being gamed by bots.

Scaling Ethereum for human-centered gaming

World is built on World Chain, an L2 blockchain secured by Ethereum. Mythical’s Mythos Chain will become the first L3 built on top of it, benefitting from Ethereum’s security and finality with the throughput and cost efficiency of a L2 network.

For players, this means fairer gameplay and more trustworthy economies. World Chain prioritizes blockspace for humans, so bots can’t crowd out real players or inflate gas prices. World ID further protects tournaments, leaderboards and matchmaking from smurfing and farming.

And last but not least, World ID makes games safer. As AI use increases the risk of fraud and abuse in games, enforcing one-human-one-account integrity becomes paramount.

Mythical already designs delightful gaming experiences that unlock the ownership economy. With World ID and World Chain, it can set a new standard for how human‑first games are designed.
