Indonesia stays ahead of AI with launch of World proof of human technology

World, the largest human-centered financial and identity network, is launching in Indonesia. The launch will start in the capital city of Jakarta, with additional cities set to follow throughout 2025. 

The arrival of World’s innovative proof of human technology brings opportunities for Indonesians to responsibly prepare for the future of AI. It also helps enable secure, inclusive and anonymous participation in the global digital economy for all.

Indonesia’s population is young, vibrant and growing. With around 90% of internet users regularly using platforms like WhatsApp and Instagram, it’s no wonder the country ranks in the top five for global social media users worldwide. 

Because of its strong online presence, the impacts of AI are being felt across Indonesia. For example, the amount of AI-based financial fraud cases in the country has ballooned by 1,550% since 2022. There’s also been an increase in deepfake-powered misinformation throughout the country as AI becomes more sophisticated.

According to a January survey of Indonesians performed by Ipsos and Tools for Humanity (a contributor to World Network):

• 90% of the 500+ respondents have experienced or know someone who has experienced digital identity fraud
• Over 90% of respondents are either very or somewhat concerned about deepfakes and the difficulty of distinguishing between humans and bots online
• 73% of Indonesians strongly agree on the importance of developing new technologies to verify human identity online

That starts with World ID. An Orb-verified World ID is like a blue checkmark that anonymously lets websites and applications know that the person who holds the World ID is a verified human. This makes it possible to clearly differentiate between accounts and information generated by real people and those generated by bots or AI agents. This is an important step in increasing trust and combatting misinformation online.

Additionally, World ID will also be able to help protect Indonesians from deep fakes thanks to World’s recently-announced Deep Face technology powered by Face Auth.

Indonesia’s digital economy is booming. It was projected to pass $90 billion USD in gross merchandise value in 2024 and is highlighted by the government as a key driver of economic growth. 

The country has also seen explosive growth in interest in digital assets recently, underscored by its leading global position in DeFi value received and retail DeFi value received.
