World Network in Colombia

November 12, 2025 3 Minute Read

As artificial intelligence becomes ubiquitous, people need digital spaces that protect them from identity theft, scams and misinformation. Yet to prove their humanness online, they’re often asked to surrender their privacy.
World helps people anonymously and securely prove they’re unique humans online. Colombians can use World ID to strengthen trust in digital interactions — from social media and gaming to ticketing and e-commerce.

A novel technology for proof of human

World’s proof of human technology is unlike anything ever created.

It creates digital proof that you’re a human, not a specific human. That part is fairly straightforward, but it’s how World achieves this that is so innovative. World does not store biometric images. Through advanced encryption and on-device processing, World’s privacy architecture ensures that:

  • Biometric images are deleted near instantaneously after being taken and converted to anonymized data.
  • Information is stored in a person’s smartphone; they have control over their data and can delete it at any time.
  • No personal identifiable information is linked to a person’s World ID — because none is ever asked for.

We believe this approach exceeds the privacy protections of traditional systems and sets a new global standard for data privacy.

World wants the people joining its network of real humans to understand the benefits and implications of doing so. Therefore, whenever someone chooses to verify their World ID at an Orb, official World operators do the following:

  • Disclose how data is handled
  • Explain that images and data are deleted from the Orb and only stored locally on the person’s phone
  • Notify them of their ability to delete their profile and data at any time from their phone
  • Require their consent to proceed

World: compliant and adaptable

World strives to follow the highest standards of information security and data protection laws globally. It is not uncommon that novel technologies raise questions.

World continues to operate responsibly in Colombia and remains available to engage with local authorities, including Colombia’s Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (SIC), to explain World’s pioneering anonymity-preserving technology, and ensure it remains fully compliant with local laws and regulations.

Expanding the network through incentives

A network becomes stronger the more members it has. To encourage growth of the real human network, people who verify their World IDs can voluntarily and optionally choose to receive Worldcoin (WLD) tokens. Participants can use these tokens on third-party apps on the network or exchange them. Claiming the WLD token is entirely optional and separate from verification.

Continually evolving technology to enhance privacy and security

World’s technology continually evolves to take into consideration dynamic regulatory environments and strengthen its already sophisticated security layers. For example, up until May 2025, World ID used open-source multi-party computation (SMPC), at which point it upgraded to anonymized multi-party computation (AMPC).

Other technological advancements include personal custody, where people have control over their information — not just deletion, but any future use.

Colombia’s vibrant technology landscape and innovative spirit make it a natural home for exploring anonymous and novel solutions that enhance trust in the digital age. We’re committed to continue operating there.
