World is the largest open global identity and financial network. It was founded to develop the tools and infrastructure necessary to help accelerate every human.
Currently, World enables [10 million] individuals to securely and anonymously prove their humanness online and to participate in the global digital economy. This includes a growing number of Brazilians who benefit from access to World Network every day.
Correcting misinformation about World in Brazil
In the midst of ongoing misinformation campaign shared on social media, it’s important to understand the facts:
- World is compliant with all laws and regulations in Brazil
- World does not purchase or exchange tokens for personal data, including iris data
- World does not store or sell personal data, including iris data
- World offers useful services to network participants
World is compliant with all laws and regulations in Brazil
World representatives are in contact with the ANPD, Brazil’s National Data Protection Authority, as they have been since before the start of operations in November 2024.
Update: An appeal was filed to ensure time to comply with the ANPD’s order and also allow time to extend discussions of this important service with the ANPD. While the appeal is pending, the service has not changed including the availability of the Worldcoin incentive. World is confident they can work together with the authorities to ensure the continued ability of all Brazilians to fully participate in World network.
World does not purchase or exchange tokens for personal data, including iris data
This false narrative stems from a misunderstanding about the project. World uses a state of the art camera (the Orb) and breakthrough cryptographic anonymization technology to prove that a person is a unique human and verify their World ID. There is absolutely no exchange of money or tokens when a person verifies their World ID.
The Orb is safe and complies with international standard specifications, including eye safety (IEC-62741). It has been audited by third parties and all of its verification technology is open to the public for review and input.
World does not store personal data, including iris data
World does not store any personal data, including iris data, and verified World ID holders are anonymous. Once a person’s World ID is verified, the images taken by the camera during the verification process are sent to the person’s phone, permanently deleted from the Orb and not stored by World. This is known as Personal Custody, and it’s how World ensures that individuals are in full control of their own information and identity. World isn’t interested in who a person is, only whether they’re a unique human.
World is unrelated to OpenAI or any other AI research and development company, and images taken to verify a person’s World ID are not used for AI training or LLMs.
World offers many useful services to network participants
A fully verified World ID enables people to participate in World Network, an open protocol, in a variety of ways. They can opt in to receive discounts and special offers from merchants. They can access a growing ecosystem of over 100 Mini Apps, where they can do things like purchase gift cards, phone top ups and more. This also includes the Worldcoin Mini App that allows verified World ID holders to claim a free share of Worldcoin (WLD)*. Individuals can use their Worldcoin to try the other services on World Network and enjoy integrations with some of their favorite apps and websites.
The benefits of being a verified unique human online continue to expand as World Network grows!
