Worldcoin brings World ID verification to Colombia

May 30, 2024 2 Minute Read

World ID orb verifications are now available in the Colombian cities of Bogotá and Medellín.

A central component of Worldcoin, World ID is a digital humanness passport that enables individuals to securely prove they are a unique human for a growing number of applications.

Locations and appointment booking information can be found here. You must be over 18 years old to verify your World ID.

Support for proof of humanness in Colombia and beyond

The availability of World ID orb verifications in Colombia comes just as new surveys show increasing support for proof of humanness both nationally and across Latin America.

According to an April 2024 online/take home survey of Colombians (men and women, over 18 years of age, of all socioeconomic levels) administered by Cifras y Conceptos for Worldcoin contributor Tools for Humanity (TFH):

  • 71% of the 1,100 respondents indicated they feel at least somewhat concerned that more convincing online bots will lead to greater levels of fraud and misinformation
  • 63% of respondents indicated they feel at least somewhat concerned that AI models will make it increasingly difficult to distinguish between content created by humans and bots
  • 68% of respondents agreed at least somewhat that mechanisms that make it possible to differentiate between bots and humans online are essential
  • 80% of respondents agreed at least somewhat that tech companies should develop new technologies to verify who is human online
  • 70% of respondents said they have already used technologies that require biometric information

These findings echo recent online surveys in Peru and Mexico conducted in March 2024 for Worldcoin contributor TFH, which together indicate there’s growing international support for technologies that prove humanness online across Latin America:

  • In Peru, 90% of the more than 800 respondents indicated they want technology-based solutions to differentiate humans from bots online.
  • Additionally, 84% of respondents in Peru indicated that mechanisms that differentiate machines from humans are “essential” for the future.
  • In Mexico, 75% of the nearly 1,000 respondents said they feel safer consuming online content that they know was generated by a human.

Privacy and control features World ID holders in Colombia

World ID offers people in Colombia one of the most secure systems that has ever existed at this scale, with privacy and control features that include:

  • The use of ZKPs to protect public keys from being known or tracked across applications
  • An unprecedented SMPC system that individually encrypts iris codes into multiple different secret shares held by different trusted parties
  • Personal Custody to store personal information securely on a user’s device and not on the orb
  • The ability to unverify a person’s World ID via permanent iris code deletion at any time for increased control over data
