World, the human-centered financial and identity network, is now available in Thailand. Thais can get their World ID verified at a number of World Spaces throughout Bangkok starting today, with more locations slated to open throughout 2025.
With the second-highest GDP in Southeast Asia, Thailand is one of the most digitally engaged countries in Asia. The arrival of World’s innovative proof of human technology enables Thais to adapt to an AI future while securely participating in the global digital economy.
AI and online threats
Thailand is increasingly online. The country’s digital economy now accounts for nearly 24% of its GDP, and seven out of 10 Thais are active on social media. Platforms like Facebook, LINE and Instagram dominate the online space, with millions of Thais relying on them for entertainment, business and communication.
With the rapid advancement of AI, this engagement presents a vector for online crime, which Thailand has been fighting for years. In 2023, the government launched the Anti-Online Scam Operation Center, a collaboration between Thai regulators, ministries, law enforcement agencies and banks that helps victims of scams freeze stolen funds.
Unfortunately, AI has made things harder for the government and citizens alike, fueling a record 168 million scam attempts in 2024—more than double the total from 2023. And last year, Thai Facebook users lost $1.2 billion to fraud, including from fake job offers and bogus investment schemes.
How World can help Thailand stay ahead
World introduces a simple but powerful tool for an AI future: proof of human.
With World ID, Thais can prove their humanness online and ensure those they interact with are real people, not bots. This verification can help curb the surge of bot-driven fraud and misinformation flooding the country’s digital spaces. Moreover, World’s Deep Face technology can protect Thais against the deepfakes that are proliferating on the social media platforms they rely on.
“The need for a trust layer that distinguishes real humans from bots and AI-generated fraud has never been greater,” said Wai Man Raymond Chu, Executive Director of the Thailand International Digital Business & Finance Centre. “By partnering with World, we are bringing Thailand a privacy-first solution that allows individuals to navigate the digital world with confidence while ensuring the country remains at the forefront of secure digital innovation.”
What Thais can expect from World
World Network aligns with the Thai concept of namjai, or generosity, by allowing people to collectively create online communities rooted in trust and authenticity. Thailand’s more than 70 million people can now join the 23 million participants worldwide (including 11 million verified humans) already on the network.
To participate in World Network, Thais only need to download World App and verify they are human via the Orb, World’s state-of-the-art camera. Once they do, they’ll be able to anonymously prove they are human online. They can also choose to claim a free share of WLD tokens* in their World App wallet. They’ll also be able to use a growing library of Mini Apps that feature everything from educational content to community organization tools.
No matter how they use World, Thais can trust that their interactions and information are secure because privacy is at the heart of the network. And World’s Personal Custody principle means that any data used to verify a World ID stays on the individual’s smartphone; neither World nor any third parties have access to it. Other advanced privacy features, including Anonymized Multi-Party Computation and zero-knowledge proofs, keep Thais’ actions and information secure and anonymous.
