Introducing the new Orb.

Powered by the latest NVIDIA Jetson chipset, the next generation Orb offers more advanced technologies that enable World ID proof of human verifications to scale faster and more efficiently than before.

Engineered for scale

The Orb is the incluse, secure and anonymous device that enables World ID holders to verify their humanness and uniqueness.

In its newest iteration, the Orb is equipped with the most advanced NVIDIA Jetson module with nearly 5x the AI performance over the previous version to enable even faster, more seamless proof of human verifications. It also features enhanced infrared and visible light cameras. These upgrades make the new Orb more adaptable to a wider range of environments and settings, improving its low light performance, fraud detection and image security.

As always, images are never stored on the Orb. Once the Orb has finished verifying your humanness, all images are sent to your phone (and only your phone) and then permanently deleted from the Orb. Learn more about personal custody

Increased scalability and transparency

The new Orb is designed to be more adaptable. It features 5G connectivity, which means it can be used quickly and reliably in even more locations around the world that may not have wifi.

It’s also been built with transparency in mind, featuring a fully removable external SD card. This makes it easy to audit and verify that the privacy protections and instructions on the Orb correspond to the open source code. The Orb’s memory is used for storing the executable instructions to take pictures for the unique humanness check, generate the iris code and then delete all images of the user afterwards.

Its new streamlined design, which uses 30% fewer parts, also makes the new Orb easier and less expensive to build. In general, each new Orb can be assembled twice as fast as the previous generation. This aligns with the World network’s focus on decentralization, making it more feasible for additional third parties to manufacture and assemble Orbs in the future.

Enhanced software for all Orb models

Both the new and previous generation Orbs feature newly enhanced privacy and security software features including Personal Custody and the recently launched Face Auth.

These advancements make it possible to offer new ways of providing World ID’s proof of human verification in more places around the world.

More Orbs globally and new ways to verify

In addition to the hardware and software enhancements, the overall World ID verification flow has been redesigned on both World App and the Orb to allow for a denser distribution of Orbs around the world.

Specifically, new verification experiences will be piloted in the coming weeks and months intended to help more people join the World network. These include:

  • Flagship locations in select cities around the world. These centers, debuting in Buenos Aires and Mexico City, will provide a redesigned proof of human verification experience and an opportunity to engage with the community to learn more about the World network.
  • On Demand Orbs enabling efficient verification. Without needing to visit a specific location, Orbs come to you, starting with a new partnership with Rappi, the #1 delivery app in Latin America.
  • Self Serve Orbs that don’t require an operator. These will be available at select retail partner locations globally.

Complementing these new access points for people to join the network, World is introducing the Community Operator program. This program allows individuals as well as businesses to purchase or rent an Orb for greater community-led access to proof of human verification.

In addition to these experiences, the new World ID also introduces World ID Credentials like Verified Passport that doesn’t require an Orb. This allows people with specific government-issued IDs to gain limited initial access to the World network and its benefits, including claiming Worldcoin grants, where available, without having fully verified their proof of human.
